About Duncan Mills Scented Creations
I’ve always been a creator.
As a shy little girl, I spent my quiet building tiny worlds — barefoot in the yard, digging ponds for my Barbie and planting miniature gardens just because I could. I was always making something — even homemade Play-Doh in the middle of my bed (much to my mom’s surprise). Creating has always felt natural to me.
My dad encouraged that creativity early on. He once bought me a chainsaw from a pawn shop so I could start carving. Using scrap wood from my husband’s workplace, I created snowmen, Santas, and pieces that still sit in people’s homes today.
The name Duncan Mills is deeply personal to me. Duncan was my maiden name — a name rooted in generations before me and when it came time to name my business, honoring that legacy felt right.
Building and creating have always been part of my story — and part of my family’s.
Nature, animals — especially my dogs and granddogs — and working with my hands are where I feel most at home.
Nearly 25 years ago, I began making candles and wax melts and fell in love with fragrance — how scent can shift a mood or bring comfort into a space. Even before freshies became popular, I was incorporating aroma beads into handmade creations.
About five years ago, I began creating freshies. What started as a simple scented item evolved into something more meaningful. I didn’t want to create something disposable — I wanted to design layered, detailed pieces that felt like keepsakes.
One of the most meaningful parts of my work is creating pet memorial pieces. Having loved and lost very special dogs of my own, I understand how deeply they become part of our lives. Creating memorial items brings comfort not only to others, but to me as well.
I’m not a large company. I work from my workshop and personally craft and ship each order. Some seasons are quiet. Others — especially around Christmas — are wonderfully busy. Every order matters deeply to me.
I believe people should pursue what makes them feel alive — even if it doesn’t make them rich. For me, that has always been creating.
Thank you for being here and supporting handmade.
